I've noticed some hybridization (I think) between these two and am unclear how closely related they are. It seems that some references point to them being the same species and others not. Thoughts, info? I find C. giganteum a useful self seeding cover crop in disturbed soil.

The one i'm interested in is Chenopodiastrum simplex, the maple-leaved goosefoot. Just saying.....

Do I detect another message for the universe there rhizowen?
As for whether album and giganteum are the same species. I have no idea. But I'd imagine they'd cross quite readily.
I have seen lamb's quarters plants at the old allotment that pop up with the colouring of C. giganteum; but they are no larger than the normal lamb's quarters, and as far as I'm aware giganteum has never been grown on the site so I couldn't call them hybrids. They both taste good though which is my main interest.
I actually prefer lamb's quarters to spinach. I'll have to try and find some of the giganteum coloured plants and move them to the new plot.
