Here is how i proceed. Disclaimer, it is barely legal, but it may still be ethical if one considers that scientific publications from work paid on public money should be open source. It isn't "barely legal", it is how background research in science is done these days. I just completed my PhD and google was my best friend when I was trying to find some obscure research. The older methods of finding papers are... exhausting and antiquated.
